Products

Hemodynamic monitoring solutions including: FloTrac® sensor and Vigileo™ monitor, PediaSat® and PreSep® oximetry catheters; Swan-Ganz® pulmonary artery catheter; TruWave® disposable pressure transducer; VAMP® (Venous Arterial blood Management Protection) system; Vantex® central venous catheter; Vigilance II™ monitor.

Edwards is credited with pioneering the practice of hemodynamic monitoring with the launch of the original Swan-Ganz catheter in the early 1970s. Today, Edwards’ extensive line of hemodynamic monitoring catheters, sensors and bedside patient monitoring tools continue to be considered the gold standard in critical care medicine. Advanced-technology versions of Edwards’ hemodynamic monitoring products, such as Edwards CCOmbo and CCOmbo V catheters and the Vigilance II monitor, provide the highest level of monitoring, including continuous end diastolic volume measurement.

In 2005, Edwards introduced the FloTrac system, the first minimally invasive hemodynamic monitoring device that connects to any existing arterial line and requires no manual calibration. The FloTrac system was developed using more than 30 years of cardiac output innovation and feedback from Edwards’ trusted partners. It allows real-time monitoring of rapid changes in hemodynamic status. The FloTrac sensor works with the Vigileo monitor by combining data from the arterial pressure line with other patient information to automatically calculate a patient’s cardiac output, stroke volume and stroke volume variation on a continuous basis.

Edwards also offers the PreSep oximetry catheter, which can be inserted into a patient’s central venous system and is capable of continuously measuring a patient’s central venous oxygen saturation (ScvO2), providing a view of tissue oxygen delivery. It is used in the management of high-risk surgery patients and those with severe sepsis, the spread of an infection to the bloodstream resulting in imbalanced oxygen consumption, and its severest form, septic shock. The Edwards PreSep catheter is now offered with integrated antimicrobial protection. The PediaSat oximetry catheter is now available for pediatrics.

Edwards is a global leader in the broader field of disposable pressure-monitoring devices and has a line of innovative products enabling closed-loop arterial blood sampling to protect both patients and clinicians from the risk of infection.

Edwards also manufactures and markets the Vantex central venous catheter (CVC), the first CVC with a patented antimicrobial polymer material that won’t wash off. Bloodstream infections associated with CVCs have increased significantly during the past 10 years. And the Vantex catheter has been shown to reduce catheter-related infection rates by 48%.

Edwards recognizes that assessing a patient’s hemodynamic and oxygenation status and minimizing the risk for infection will continue to be one of the fundamental requirements for successful treatment of critically ill patients. Edwards will continue to leverage its strength in this area to advance patient care.
