Helmet Noninvasive Ventilation Shows Benefits Over Nasal Oxygen for COVID-19

For patients with COVID-19 and moderate to severe hypoxemia, treating with noninvasive ventilation via a helmet is comparable to high-flow nasal oxygen for the number of days free of respiratory support in the first 28 days.

The multicenter randomized study published in JAMA (2021;325[17]:1731-1743) comprised 109 patients admitted to one of four ICUs in Italy between October and December 2020. The study group was included in the follow-up and primary analysis.
