NEW ORLEANS—Preoperative anemia appears to be associated with an increased risk for postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) in older adults presenting for hip fracture surgery.
The researchers, from Tufts University School of Medicine, Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, all in Boston, noted that this association is particularly evident when patients have preoperative hemoglobin concentrations less than 10 g/dL.
“There is emerging evidence suggesting that anemia
