A 3-year-old girl presented to the emergency department after an episode of hematemesis at home. She was previously healthy and had no recent illnesses. She had eaten cereal for breakfast three hours prior to presentation. A 22-gauge antecubital IV catheter was placed, and laboratory studies were done.
