Sugammadex Decreases Respiratory Risk Compared With Neostigmine

Switching from neostigmine to sugammadex as the standard reversal agent during anesthesia was linked to a decreased risk for a composite respiratory outcome, defined as either reintubation for respiratory failure or new noninvasive ventilation, according to new research.

“Our study suggests that sugammadex is preferable over neostigmine with respect to the likelihood of adverse pulmonary outcomes after surgery,” said Karsten Bartels, MD, PhD, the principal investigator and an
