Critical Oxygen Delivery Threshold May Prevent AKI in Elderly Cardiac Surgery Patients

Low oxygen delivery thresholds increase the risk for acute kidney injury in elderly patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass, a new study has concluded.

The team of Dutch researchers behind the investigation also identified a critical oxygen delivery (DO2) threshold of 270 mL/min/m2, which they said proved applicable to both frail and nonfrail patients.
