A study has shown an association between several metrics of perioperative regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) and postoperative delirium following cardiac surgery.

Baseline rSO2 was associated with delirium in unadjusted models, but the relationship did not persist in models adjusted for baseline cognition. These findings underscore the importance of including baseline cognition when predicting delirium, according to the investigators.
