Pulse oximetry, particularly with newer models, remains accurate in patients with poor peripheral perfusion, but a new review found that placement on earlobes is more accurate than use of fingertips in these patients.
The findings, the researchers said, spell good news for clinicians who find themselves performing an increasing number of virtual patient consultations in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
