Patients with sepsis, but not suffering shock, who received continuous infusions of propofol more frequently experienced negative hemodynamic events than those who received dexmedetomidine, a study has found.
The retrospective, observational, multicenter cohort study compared the development of clinically significant hypotension or bradycardia in 95 adults with non–vasopressor-dependent sepsis. Patients received either propofol or dexmedetomidine infusions while on mechanical ventilation.
