As a community anesthesiologist who has been involved in thousands of upper endoscopic procedures, I would like to share my perspective on a recent correspondence in Anesthesiology News, titled “A Further Comment on Catastrophic Sedation Errors: The Role of Hypoxia” (2021;47[7]:6), by René Miguel Gonzalez, MD.
While he correctly indicates that inadequate ventilation leads to hypoxia and that prolonged hypoxia can lead to catastrophic outcomes, his conclusion and
