Trauma patients who are transferred from the ICU at nighttime experience longer delays, higher rates of ICU readmission and more frequent major complications, according to a study presented at the 2024 annual meeting of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma.
The study authors noted that the findings suggest approaches for patient transfers should be analyzed in order to minimize these outcomes, particularly as hospital bed shortages increase in the United States.
“While this
