SAN DIEGO—Adding ascorbic acid to tranexamic acid decreased total blood loss compared with tranexamic acid alone after total knee arthroplasty (TKA), in a new randomized controlled trial. The authors said that although more research is needed to confirm the findings, the potential to reduce blood loss during this common procedure can reduce healthcare utilization and improve patient outcomes.
