We sat down with Wes Knauft, MD, the chairman of the anesthesia department, and Philip Corvo, MD, the chairman of surgery and director of the surgical ICU, at St. Mary’s Hospital, in Waterbury, Conn. They described their recent experience setting up an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) program.
The motivation for starting the ERAS program was to improve the hospital’s patient pain and satisfaction scores, reduce infection rates and shorten the hospital length of stay.
