CHICAGO—Anticholinergic medication used before elective surgery may result in additional adverse effects, according to a recent study.
The research, presented at the 2018 annual meeting of the International Anesthesia Research Society (abstract 555), found that higher Anticholinergic Risk Scale (ARS) scores resulted in a decrease in quality of postoperative outcomes in elective noncardiac surgery patients older than 66 years of age (N=245,410).
