Perioperative acupuncture reduced patients’ postoperative pain and opioid use by about half, according to a new pilot study, conducted at a Veterans Affairs medical center.
Using either traditional acupuncture (TA; n=21) or battlefield acupuncture (BFA; n=28) versus sham acupuncture (n=21 and 36, respectively), the researchers found—for general and neuraxial anesthesia procedures—24-hour oral milligram morphine
