New Implant Combined with Bupivacaine Hydrochloride Approved for Pain After Hernia Repair

The FDA has approved a novel drug–device combination for acute postsurgical analgesia lasting up to 24 hours following open inguinal hernia repair.

Xaracoll (Innocoll Holdings) is a fully bioresorbable collagen implant that contains bupivacaine hydrochloride. The implant is placed into the surgical site during the surgery and gradually releases bupivacaine over time. Analgesia is immediate.
