Antidepressants are used in the management of chronic pain despite insufficient evidence of long-term efficacy, according to a recent network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from the Cochrane Library (Cochrane Database Syst Rev 202310:5[5]:CDO14682).
Duloxetine was the only antidepressant to have “moderate-to-high”–certainty evidence of moderate efficacy, but only in short-term pain relief.
