Polycythemia vera (PV) is a myeloproliferative neoplasm with an incidence of about 2 per 100,000 population per year and a prevalence of 44 to 57 per 100,000 persons.1,2 Hematopoietic stem cells proliferate, causing an erythrocytosis with variable levels of leukocytosis and thrombocytosis.3
