Fort Lauderdale, Fla.—Reducing intraoperative opioids by using a standardized enhanced recovery protocol (ERP; Table) does no t increase postoperative pain scores for colorectal surgery, according to a new study. Without this complication, curtailing opioid use through an ERP’s application of multimodal analgesia can improve patient outcomes, noted researchers from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC).
