Body Mass Index and Psychosocial Traits Likely Linked to Post-op TKR Pain

Patients with osteoarthritis who underwent total knee replacement (TKR) surgery incurred higher procedure-related costs if they had preoperatively increased clinical body mass index (BMI), anxiety and poor social support, according to a recent article in the Journal of Rheumatology (2016;43:1600-1606).

The 212-patient study found that the mean total costs were $30,831 per patient. However, the predicted cost for an obese patient with lower positive social interaction and highest anxiety was
