Disagreements Persist Over Safety of Dental Anesthesia

Orlando, Fla.—By all accounts, Caleb Sears was a healthy 6-year-old boy. Born with an extra tooth, Caleb needed to undergo surgery to have it removed, in March 2015. The oral surgeon performing the extraction told Caleb’s parents their son needed general anesthesia as part of the procedure.

Caleb, however, did not live to see his seventh birthday, and ever since then clinical professionals have been arguing about how to not let that happen again.
