Multimodal Pathway Decreases Postoperative Delirium in Rib Fracture Patients

QUEBEC CITY—Implementation of a multimodal analgesic pathway for chest trauma is associated with reduced incidence of delirium, a Canadian research team has concluded.

The investigators found that occurrence of the adverse event fell markedly after implementation of the pathway, an improvement they said may be due to the opioid-sparing effect of regional anesthesia and other multimodal techniques utilized in the pathway.
