Although excessive concentrations of postoperative troponin T have long been associated with increased morbidity and mortality after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery, little research has been done on this relationship in other cardiac procedures.
Now, Cleveland Clinic investigators have concluded that the troponin threshold indicative of myocardial injury after CABG surgery cannot be generalized to other cardiac surgical procedures.
“We know that elevated
