Early Documentation of Cognitive Status in Elderly Patients Leads to Better Peri-op Planning

A new study from Keck School of Medicine of USC has demonstrated that sometimes the simplest interventions in geriatric anesthesia can have meaningful effects.

The investigation concluded that documenting a patient’s cognitive status in the electronic medical record (EMR) results in modifications to both anesthetic practice and postoperative care plans, changes the researchers said can have “profound” effects on an older patient’s perioperative journey.
