SAN FRANCISCO—A study of anesthetic management plans for total hip arthroplasty (THA) has determined that spinal anesthesia results in improved outcomes when compared with general anesthesia.
“More and more studies are finding that spinal anesthesia, with or without peripheral nerve blocks, is superior to general anesthesia in patients receiving total hip arthroplasty,” said Alexander Beletsky, MD, an anesthesiology resident at Riverside Community Hospital, in California.
