PHILADELPHIA—A study of more than 50,000 procedures has found a very low rate of 24-hour unplanned postoperative hospital admissions at an ambulatory surgery center (ASC)—a figure the researchers say can serve as a benchmark for other centers undertaking quality improvement initiatives. The study also identified a series of risk factors independently associated with unplanned hospital admission.
