The U.S. Senate voted to confirm Jerome Adams, MD, as the new U.S. Surgeon General on Thursday. Dr. Adams was nominated by President Donald Trump for the position in June.
“To be confirmed as the 20th US Surgeon General is truly an indescribable honor,” Dr. Adams wrote in a tweet after the confirmation.
Dr. Adams, an anesthesiologist, was serving as the Indiana State Health Commissioner, a role he was appointed to by Vice President Mike Pence, the former governor of Indiana.
