Orlando, Fla.—Nonopioid pain medications may be a good option for some ventilated surgical patients in the ICU, according to study findings.
Researchers found that during a six-month injectable fentanyl shortage in 2018, clinicians used fewer opioids overall and increased nonopioid multimodal pain medications in mechanically ventilated patients in the surgical ICU (SICU).
The nonopioid choices, such as dexmedetomidine, ketamine and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, adequately treated
