Mindfulness Success for Pain May Be Partly a Placebo Effect

TORONTO—Evidence from a new study suggests that a brief mindful decentering training has no effect in reducing the unpleasantness or intensity of pain; however, shaping people’s expectation that a treatment would be effective in reducing pain did relieve both the unpleasantness and intensity of pain.
